According to People magazine, emergency services in Greenville, South Carolina, received a call at around 1:51 p.m. reporting an unconscious woman in cardiac arrest. Police and paramedics arrived at the scene and immediately began efforts to revive her. The emergency recordings reportedly mentioned a possible overdose while CPR and advanced life-support measures were being administered.
Despite attempts to save her, the Heroes and Nashville star was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:32 p.m. Greenville police said the preliminary investigation found no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.
In a new development, an autopsy was completed, with the Greenville County Coroner’s Office saying no signs of physical injuries or trauma linked to her death were found. Her official cause and manner of death remain undetermined pending further testing and investigation.
Additional details from inside the home have added to the mystery. Page Six reported that Narcan, a medication commonly used to reverse opioid overdoses, was found at the scene. However, the presence of Narcan does not in itself prove that Panettiere suffered an overdose, and authorities have not officially identified an overdose as the cause of death.
The latest developments have also brought renewed attention to Panettiere’s previous public statements about her long struggle with alcohol and opioid addiction. She had spoken openly about her experience in several interviews and later revealed further details in her 2026 memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning.
With emergency recordings referring to a "possible overdose," Narcan reportedly found at the scene, and an autopsy showing no signs of physical trauma, the circumstances surrounding Panettiere’s death remain unresolved. Investigators are awaiting the final forensic results to determine what happened during the actress’s final moments.
